To Walk Under Palm Trees

The Germans in Samoa: Snapshots from Albums

Erich took up a position as the manager of a large plantation at Falelauniu, an hour’s horse and coach ride from town, which was owned by Lieutenant Julius Franz. Franz appears to have broken in the land and planted it before returning to Germany. It was planted mainly in cocoa but also had coconuts as well.

This composite shows both the rear and front of the house. Else Garben features in both images.
