The Germans in Samoa: Snapshots from Albums

The Germans in Samoa 110

This photo of a copra dryer at the Mulifanua Plantation from about 1915 shows a more rudimentary set-up, with the furnace positioned underneath the drying room. Vents are apparent at the peak of the roof. Melanesian workers, some apparently very young, are on the right. The men on the left are (left-to-right): Mr Alan R.Cobcroft, Mr John Helg the plantation manager, Mr Friz Jahnke and Mr Uati Rasmussen behind.

(During the time of the NZ Administration a copra drier existed in each of the 4-5 sections of the Mulifanua Plantation.)
