Ernst Dorn was another German official who had the misfortune to be appointed to Samoa not too long before war’s outbreak in 1914. He served as Chinese Commissioner, controlling all aspects of the hiring and living conditions for the Chinese plantation workers who were brought in to Samoa as a labour source after 1903.
Mr Dorn was interned in New Zealand during the war and was deported to Germany on board the “Willochra” in May 1919.
